We love helping our patients get back in the game – and in the case of Brandon, it was our pleasure to help him get back to the baseball field!
“I would like to start by saying that I am extremely grateful and blessed that I was placed in the hands of such great care and compassion at Makovicka Physical Therapy.
I am a baseball player and I suffered an injury to my left throwing (arm) shoulder – a chronic fracture on the posterior inferior Glenoid cavity in the shoulder socket. On top of the socket fracture was another chronic injury called a Bennett lesion, which is a mineralization of the posterior band of the inferior glenohumeral ligament as a result of extra-articular posterior capsular avulsion injury. In short I had a nickel-sized bone forming in my shoulder capsule that caused severe pain when throwing. My 2016 baseball season ended 2 weeks into the season and I returned home for Arthroscopic surgery done by Dr. Steve Hagan.
I started physical therapy with Makovicka Physical Therapy clinic on North 90th St. one week after the surgery. I was greeted by Cheryl, the receptionist, and she introduced me to Scott Edwards who would lead the team of therapists who worked and coordinated together to give me the best rehab experience I could ever ask for. I knew that the rehab process was critical, or the chances of me returning to the game at the same level I was at before my injury were slim, and I needed a strong, thorough, diligent and caring rehab team.
That is what I think makes Makovicka the ideal place for physical therapy and rehab from major surgeries. If you are an athlete and looking for rehab that will get you back into playing shape or just to regain a normal healthy body, then Makovicka should be the one and only choice for you. I completed 20 weeks of therapy, and while it was grueling at times, I have graduated and am thrilled to say that my shoulder is stronger now than it was prior to the injury. I believe it is due to the fact that Makovicka therapists worked with me in various ways to achieve strategic results in a timely manner. They were all on the same page about what I needed to accomplish in order to return to prolific throwing shape. I was given specific instructions outside of therapy that helped me speed up and maintain a healthy recovery process. All these factors played into an extraordinary experience and one that I now find myself delighted to share about.
There are so many people from the clinic that I want to thank. First would be Cheryl Herrington who greeted me every morning around 7 am with the brightest smile and sincerest hello. To the man who ran the show Scott Edwards, thank you for being personable, knowledgeable, and prepared to give me, and all your clients, the best experience possible everyday. To my guy Nick Weber – the day I make it big I will not forget you! Your hands-on therapy with me made me excited to come in and get some work done. I appreciate your genuine concern for me and my progress through rehab, and on top of that, you’re an avid baseball fan and I enjoyed our conversations! To Chelsea Popken whom I have to say has the funniest laugh I have ever heard. Thank you for your daily antics and goofy comments that were guaranteed to put a smile on my face. Your efforts and work with me are appreciated! To Colleen, who is sweetheart, thank you for working with me and being a pleasant face to see in the morning. I hope your little bun in the oven is a bundle of joy that will fill you and your family with joy. To Rob and Nick thank you boys for the help and support in the office! You both are well on your way to doing great things in this world and are just the right men to do so.
Much love to all the staff at Makovicka for it is because of you all that my career in the world of professional baseball is soon to be back on track come Spring of 2017!
Sincerely,
Brandon J. Stennis”
Thanks Brandon, and we can’t wait to hear how the 2017 season goes for you! Good luck!
