Makovicka Physical Therapy’s Work Conditioning program returns patients to work quickly and safely.  Research has shown that employees who have gone through work conditioning have a decreased risk for re-injury and return to work sooner. There are some common questions about work conditioning that we answer below:

Q:  What is work conditioning? It is a program that utilizes real and simulated work activities to help you return to your prior level of function while minimizing the risk of re-injury.

Q: How long is the program?

The program is a 3-4 hour program that is implemented 3 to 5 times a week, depending on what the physician prescribes.

Q: Is pain addressed during work conditioning?
Yes, we have different modalities that we can provide to help address pain.

Q: Who participates in the work conditioning program?
Clients who got injured on the job, clients who have a job that requires them to lift at least 50 lbs on a daily basis, and clients who are not working full duty. Our work conditioning program helps our clients transition from light duty to full duty.

Q: How do I know I am ready to transition to the work conditioning program?
This is a conversation each client should have with his or her therapist for the client to transition at the right time. The main factors to look at when thinking about transitioning to work conditioning are a range of motion, responsibilities on the job, and duty level.
