We can’t tell you how much it warms the heart when we hear how we have helped improve the quality of life for our patients. Our focus may be on the science of making the human body move and feel better, but it never gets old hearing how it makes our patients truly FEEL better – physically and emotionally.
Maryanne recently graduated after several months of therapy with us. She shared some thoughts about her experience with our therapists at the 90th St. clinic.
“Before I came to Makovicka, if they had told me what I would accomplish, I would have turned and run because I would have been afraid. The physical therapists at Makovicka PT took a person who was shaky and afraid to go anywhere for fear of falling, and gave me my life back. I used to be too scared to drive or go shopping because I was afraid I would fall and not be able to get up.
I started physical therapy at Makovicka PT after I fell outside my home and I didn’t have the strength to get myself up. It took me an hour and a half to get into my house. I am 75 years old, but I was like a 90-year-old.
The physical therapists made me able to walk and drive without worrying. I may not be skating anytime soon, but they gave me back my balance, which I didn’t think was possible. I was ready to find a retirement home because I didn’t think I could live on my own, but now I can do things that should be impossible for people my age.
All of the physical therapists were exceptional. Before I graduated I told them they had given me my life back. They gave me a Makovicka t-shirt to show I graduated with honors, and I wear it with pride. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with the physical therapists because they made me better, and I do my exercises every day to keep myself going. This is the best thing that has happened to me in years – they gave me my life back!”
